THE LAND ABOUNDS WITH GARDENS

The number of people, who are willing to engage in gardening activities, continues to increase in Dashoguz Velayat every year. Thus, in Gurbansoltan-eje etrap alone, in recent years, 299 locals have been allocated 1,550 hectares from a special agricultural land fund created in N. Andalyp Daikhan Association for fruit and vegetable crop production, including perennial trees and vines. Most of the new land tenants granted a 99-year lease will be involved only in horticulture and vine-growing. 110 tenant farmers plan to combine the activities with growing potatoes and some other crops. Of the allocated plots of land, 182 hectares are covered by fruit trees, some 16 hectares are under vines, and 2-plus hectares are planted with mulberry trees.

Despite its harsh natural and climatic conditions, the country’s northern region is notable for its gardens and invariably produces sufficiently high yields of apples, pears, plums, cherry plums, sweet cherries, cherries and other fruits. Thanks to the consistent work carried out by the state to protect the environment and enhance natural wealth, a number of large projects are being successfully implemented in the Dashoguz region to improve farmlands, to prevent salinization and waterlogging, to boost the efficiency of water use, and to arrange green spaces. Undertaken as part of annual nationwide tree-planting campaigns, efforts to plant hundreds of thousands of young trees in the velayat have generated a need for growing more coniferous and deciduous shade trees. Along with state-run institutions, private businesses are today actively involved in the process.
