International Day for the Dissemination of Information on the Special Needs of Landlocked Developing Countries and the Challenges They Face Observed for the First Time
On August 6, 2025, a briefing was held to mark the launch of the International Day for the Dissemination of Information on the Special Needs of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and the Particular Challenges They Face.
Speakers at the briefing included Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima, and Permanent Representative of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to the United Nations and Chair of the LLDC Group, Diego Pacheco.
The speakers emphasized that, in accordance with a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly in late July 2025, August 6 is being observed for the first time as an international day dedicated to raising awareness about the specific needs and challenges of landlocked developing countries. The establishment of this day is expected to serve as a powerful catalyst for strengthening partnerships in support of LLDCs.
It is notable that this day is being marked for the first time during a historic event taking place in Turkmenistan—the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
This newly established day is set to become a starting point for enhanced efforts to address the complex issues these countries face, including climate-related challenges, high transport and trade costs, and other structural barriers.
The briefing concluded with a Q&A session.
