TURKMEN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS COMPETE TO BE NAMED BEST IN EXACT SCIENCES AND ECOLOGY

The final round of the Second Open Online Olympiad has begun. Run by the Institute of Engineering and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan (IETCT), the competition is open to higher education students.

Students from 17 institutions are taking part in the online contest, including those of the capital, the Turkmen Agricultural Institute (Dashoguz), the Turkmen State Energy Institute (Mary) and the Seyitnazar Seidi Turkmen State Teachers’ Training Institute (Turkmenabat).

Among the participants are many-time Olympiad winners, who are competing in five subjects: theoretical mechanics, physics, chemistry, information technology, and ecology.

Ata Jumakuliev, a co-founder and coordinator of the Online Olympiad, head of the Department of Information and Educational Technology at the Institute of Engineering and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan, said in a conversation that such inter-university competitions enable to encourage innovation and unleash potential in young people, and to provide an Internet-based platform for their research projects.

In this context, it is important to mention that the software platform for the Online Olympiad was designed by IT specialists led by Ata Jumakuliev. To closely monitor the students’ performance and provide a reliable and fair assessment by judges, each participant’s current status is being shown online.

The first round of the Olympiad that took place on May 11-12 determined the young people who would contest in the final. On the Olympiad’s final day the contestants representing the institutions of the capital, Dashoguz, Mary and Turkmenabat will be connected via video link.

The awards ceremony on May 26 will see the winners receive medals and certificates. According to the organizers, they have plans to invite students from the CIS countries to take part in the Open Online Olympiad.
