ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC, ECOLOGICAL AND SOCIAL IMPACTS OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC IS GIVEN DURING ONLINE MEETING

Representatives of Caspian Sea Institute took part in international online conference “Blue Economy” and COVID-19 pandemic: New challenges, measures for rehabilitation and sustainability”.
This event was organized by the UN Conference for Trade and Development, UN Food and Agricultural Organization, the UN Training and Research Institute together with International Ocean Institute on the threshold of the World Ocean Day, which is observed annually on June 8 and timed to the Week of the World Ocean.
Assessment of economic, ecological and social consequences of the pandemic for coastal and island states has been given during the meeting; measures for rehabilitation and development of international trade, maritime transport and logistic, fishery and seafood production, coastal and sea tourism, other main sectors of ‘blue economy’ related to use of resources of seas and oceans in post-crisis period have been discussed.
Currency of initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who sees Caspian problems in the context of global objectives like environment protection, provision of economic, energy and food safety, efficient combating against common threats, aimed at implementation of geopolitical and economic potential of Caspian region has been highlighted.
Proposals of Turkmen leader serves as a concept of efficient cooperation of Caspian Five states with international structures, representatives of business and scientific circles of the world both in industrial development of sea and also in protection and rational use of rich natural resources of Caspian sea.
