ROUND-TABLE MEETING WITH NATALIA GHERMAN
On December 28, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a round-table meeting with the participation of Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia, the Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman.
The meeting agenda focused on cooperation between the states of Central Asia in modern conditions, as well as the expansion of economic, social, cultural rights of women in strengthening the foundations of democracy.
The Chairperson of the Mejlis, the Chairperson of the National Center of Trade Unions, the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan also took part in the round-table meeting.
Those speaking during the meeting underlined that the election of Turkmenistan to the Executive Council of the structure for gender equality and the empowerment of women served as another evidence of our country's commitment to gender equality and cooperation with the UN on this aspect.
In this context, it was underlined the necessity to further strengthen fruitful contacts with international organizations that is prioritized by the policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The meeting participants reported about regular seminars, meetings and consultations on the preparation of national reports and reviews, the study of best practices in this area, in accordance with the UN documents.
Highly assessing the prospects for further cooperation, the participants of the meeting underlined that the UN General Assembly, co-sponsored by 73 states, unanimously adopted the Resolution initiated by the President of Turkmenistan to declare the year 2021 the International Year of Peace and Trust.
That vividly proves that the international community supported the foreign policy course pursued by President of neutral Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the name of ensuring universal peace, security and sustainable development.
This meeting was another practical step towards strengthening the dialogue with international organizations, and, first of all, with the UN.
