MEETING OF THE INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
On January 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on ensuring the fulfillment of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law. Representatives of the Mejlis, a number of ministries and sectoral departments, and public organizations of the country attended the meeting.
The meeting participants discussed the priority areas of the upcoming work of state bodies and public associations in the field of ensuring human rights and implementing the norms of international humanitarian law.
The meeting agenda focused on the results of work of this structure for 2020 as well as a work plan for the current year, held under the motto "Turkmenistan - Homeland of Peace and Trust".
It was noted that during the reporting period, steps were taken to further democratize and strengthen the legal foundations of the state. A striking example of this is the improvement of constitutional norms on the national parliament.
In the report of the Interdepartmental Commission, special attention was paid to the development of draft national programmes in the field of gender equality, as well as state youth affairs and action plans for their implementation, aimed at the effective implementation of legislative guarantees.
Commission members noted that as an equal member of the world community and the main documents of the United Nations, including in the legal sphere, Turkmenistan in fact demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling its international obligations.
This is reflected in the ongoing webinars, meetings and consultations on the preparation of national reports, reviews and the study of best practices in the field of human rights in accordance with UN international documents.
It was noted that the main activities of the Interdepartmental Commission include the analysis of the current legislation, the preparation of relevant recommendations, raising the awareness of the population in the field of national legislation aimed at ensuring fundamental human rights and freedoms.
The meeting participants summed up the work done within the framework of the Plan for the implementation of international humanitarian law for 2018-2020 and discussed a draft work plan in this area for 2021-2023.
As part of the discussion of the work plan of the Interdepartmental Commission for 2021, specific tasks for its practical implementation were identified.
