DIALOGUES ABOUT WATER AND NOT ONLY

The videoconference working meeting held between representatives of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan on February 3 focused on efficient water use in the region.

The heads and specialists of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, as well as representatives of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Tajikistan and the Embassy of Tajikistan in Turkmenistan attended the meeting.

Neutral Turkmenistan consistently calls for the consideration and solution of water issues on the basis of generally recognized norms of international law, mutual respect and consideration of the interests of all states of the region and with the participation of authoritative international organizations.

Our country also invariably takes a proactive position in addressing the issues of the Aral Sea, the relevance of which goes far beyond Central Asia, which was confirmed in the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly.

In this context, the meeting participants exchanged views on the practical implementation of the proposals, aimed at improving the ecological state of the Aral Sea basin, developing water management, economy and social sphere in the region.

These goals were reflected in the Joint Communiqué adopted on the outcomes of the Summit of the Heads of the IFAS Founding States, held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in August 2018.

Underlining that the economic growth, social well-being and improvement of the ecological situation in the Aral Sea region are closely related to the availability of water resources, ensuring their rational and efficient use, including in agriculture, the meeting participants called for the further development of the constructive dialogue in this direction.
