THE CEREMONY OF LAYING FLOWERS TO THE MEMORIAL PLATE TO HONOUR TURKMENISTAN HEROES IN SAINT PETERSBURG

On May 9, the “Mekan” Society of Turkmen Culture in St. Petersburg organized the ceremony of laying flowers to the memorial plate at the Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery, erected in honor of the heroes of Turkmenistan, the fallen in battles of the Leningrad, Volkhov and Karelian Fronts during the Great Patriotic War.
This monument in honour of our compatriots was erected on May 8, 2006 by the Department of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens for St. Petersburg and North-West Russia, the “Mekan” Society of Turkmen Culture in St. Petersburg with the support of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation.
Every year, the official delegations, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora living in St. Petersburg, students of St. Petersburg universities among others come there to pay tribute to the heroes of the Great Victory. Moreover, members of the “Mekan” Society of Turkmen Culture in St. Petersburg participate in the Memorial March.
On occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory and in order to perpetuate the memory of heroes, the Mekan” Society of Turkmen Culture in St. Petersburg publishes the list of soldiers and officers who fell in battles of the Leningrad, Volkhov and Karelian Fronts on turkmenspb.ru. This action was organized in the name of preserving the historical memory of our compatriots’ contribution to the Victory over fascism. This is important for the younger generation to realize their involvement in great deeds and the feat of their ancestors, to continue the glorious military and labor traditions of the people.
